What's New This Week?

We're in the library today and tomorrow working on our Barbarian Collages. Hopefully, this will speed our process up and we can finish by Thursday. Can't wait to see them!

On Thursday, we will begin taking notes on the Ottoman Empire. This is a fascinating period of history that focuses on the growth of what used to be known primarily as Persia, and the empire they created, as well as the Crusades. Below you will note the flag of the Ottoman Empire.

Ottoman Empire Flag

Can you discover what the symbols on this flag mean?

Can You Name the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire?  Try this game!

We will not be testing on this material until the end of next week. See you in the library!

  3. I'm 3rd to comment I'm proud, but about the symbols I think the swords mean that they will fight for themselves and their people.

  9. This is a flag from the Ottoman Empire. The crescent and star represent the Islam Shirk, or the sin of putting another god before Allah (idolatry). The next symbol is a picture of two Zulfikar swords. ~that took a lot of Googling~

  13. The flag of the Ottoman Empire contains a crescent moon which means it is the symbol of the Ottomans, the star symbolizes the Turks and the swords are the swords of Ali Zulfikar.

Some Ottoman sultans were Khakan, Hunkar and Padishah.

  14. I already have my barbarian words and pictures and I'm doing the Huns. Also, I'm guessing that the flag is like a symbol of patriotism to Persia, but I'm not really sure. I would like to know, though.

  42. WHAT DOES THE FOX SAYSeptember 15, 2014 at 1:42 PM

Dog goes woof, cat goes meow.
Bird goes tweet, and mouse goes squeak.
Cow goes moo. Frog goes croak, and the elephant goes toot.
Ducks say quack and fish go blub, and the seal goes OW OW OW.
But there's one sound that no one knows...
    WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?

    Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
    Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!

    Joff-tchoff-tchoff-tchoffo-tchoffo-tchoff!
    WHAT THE FOX SAY?

Big blue eyes, pointy nose, chasing mice, and digging holes.
Tiny paws, up the hill, suddenly you're standing still.
Your fur is red, so beautiful, like an angel in disguise.
But if you meet a friendly horse, will you communicate by mo-o-o-o-orse, mo-o-o-o-orse, mo-o-o-o-orse?
How will you speak to that h-o-o-orse, h-o-o-orse, h-o-o-orse?
    WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?!

    Jacha-chacha-chacha-chow!

    WHAT THE FOX SAY?
    A-oo-oo-oo-ooo!
    Woo-oo-oo-ooo!
    WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?!

The secret of the fox, ancient mystery.
Somewhere deep in the woods, I know you're hiding.
What is your sound? Will we ever know?
Will always be a mystery what do you say?

You're my guardian angel hiding in the woods.
What is your sound? (A-bubu-duh-bubu-dwee-dum a-bubu-duh-bubu-dwee-dum)
    Will we ever know? (A-bubu-duh-bubu-dwee-dum)
